3 Things to Remember

During this time of social distancing I have done lots and lots of thinking. There have been times where I wish I could just drive to see Kyle in Arkansas, or drive to the town over to see my bestest friends; like I am finally only 10 miles from them and I have seen them less during this time than I have seen them while living full time in Oklahoma for 2 years… CRAZY. Every place we go I wonder, every new person I cross paths with I’m more standoffishl (if you know me, you know that is not my norm) but it is just “part of life” now. 

So with this “part of life” I have also taken time to reflect and find things that I find important for everyone to remember: 

  1. Trust in the Process: This time has for sure been a PROCESS to say the least. It has been back and forth, up and down, this way and that way and so much more. For the first time in many of our lives we are told to have little to no face to face contact with people. Unless you’ve ever been a cancer patient or someone with a compromised immune system then you might be living down the PTSD lane at this point (I get it!). With that all being said, trust in the process we are given and that we are out of control of, which leads to number 2. 
  2. Take Time to be Still: With this uncertain process one thing we can control is being STILL. In my time of being still I have been able to sit with my family and with my grandparents more than I have since who knows when. I have been able to immerse myself in our family business and see amazing things happening! I am able to take time to PRAY and spend time with myself and reflect on how far I have grown over the last few years, as well as set goals for the future. 
  3. BE THANKFUL: While there are lots of scary things going on that we can’t control, we can not lose sight of the things we need to be thankful for. It is so easy for us to dwell and be upset about the things that we have no control over but why not take that time and energy and be intentional about what we are thankful for. Take time to write and reflect on the great things that have happened over the last year or even in your time here on earth. You’d be surprised how much better you feel when you are able to see those things. 

In my time of, trusting, being still and being thankful, one thing it has allowed me to reflect on is my body and mind. Sounds kind of crazy but as an elite athlete that is something that I think about daily. I want to be in the perfect shape and the perfect size and so much more but in this time I have been able to listen to my body and be thankful for all it has done for me. This is the most time my body has had to rest in 2 whole years and with that rest I have seen so many positive things happen. 

I don’t wake up in pain or with negative thoughts about my body, the body that has taken me so many places, that has fought and kicked cancer’s butt, that has allowed me to play my favorite sport for the last 13 years and so much more. I have seen muscles develop in a positive way and I am finally happy with where I am at.

I do not write this to boast or anything like that. Instead to remind myself and YOU in the future of how awesome this time has been and how much has changed. To remind you to reflect and write down different feelings and thoughts and to remind ALL OF US  when we do get down to trust, be still, and be thankful.
